but if you have a girlfriend or wife's mangy cat or pooch that you either meaows incessantly during the nighttime hours or a mutt that bales each evening to the moon, I'd recommend a right quick shave (might as well do the whole animal) and then give them the glow in dark tat.
See how it looks on them and then decide by how much scratching time that they employ. You'll want to give em' a flea and tick collar first-being scientific and all to rule out any outside influences or variables that could hamper your evaluation period.
A word of caution...you may want to keep away from said animal for a period of time (particularly around the food bowl) or an inopprtune time like let say the bathroom...
