Jigs seem to work well, and tube baits or anything resembling a crayfish that can be fished slowly on the bottom. Also crankbaits can be effective. We've even caught a few on Erie Dearies in areas of the lake that aren't condusive habitat for smallmouth. If you can find a good rocky flat with a bit of structure, you should be able to find some nice fish. There's plenty of them in the lake - probably the most overlooked fish in Erie. Good luck
