first we must break the word expert down to common denominators.
an "ex" is a has been and a "spurt" is a drip under pressure. as one of my heroes, satchel paige once said " it's better to be a has been , than a never was."
i like your analogy on life in general. if you have an experience in life and share it with others thats great. if it doesn't work out for them thats the way life sometimes is, or the breaks, as we call them. after all we can't all swing the bat like joe morgan did. we have to master our own style.
i disagre you are a jack of all trades and master of nothing. you have mastered life. you have taken lifes tasks and fitted them to your own style, maybe you couldn't do something in someone elses operendi, who gives a rats rump, but you made it work for you and thats whats important. you adjusted.
another thing satchel once said, 'NOBODY CAN AVOID BEING BORN AVERAGE, BUT NOBODY HAS TO BE COMMON".
why was satchel so important to me you might say. when i was a kid i had a very sickly child hood. i always loved sports. but i couldn't participate. well bak in the days of old the cleveland indians had a farm club in dayton ohio called the dayton indians. much like today the game between dayton and cleveland was the last game before the big league season started. after the game all the stars would shake hands with the fans and sign autographs. now this was on the field of play mind you. like everybody else i ran out onto the field and the first player i ran into was satchel. i offered my hand and he shook it. what a thrill for a 12 year old kid. his hand was huge and i felt i was touched by one of the archangels. what an honor just to share the grass with him. i thought i'd died and gone to heaven. here i was in the midst of boudreau, gordon, al rosen, wynn, garcia, feller, lemon, luke easter, larry doby. i shook hands with them all. i also didn't wash my hand for a week.
so as satch would say "pardner, you might be average, but ya dang sure ain't common."
