So, are you a recoil sensitive person or an average joe? If you want to skip the recoil a 243 is a good caliber choice, and the 25-06 would work well too; for other average joe calibers it's hard to beat a 30-06. The rifle should probably be a bolt action due to accuracy, reliability, and simplicity. The most common action for gun hunters, by the way. Now a rifle to get this bolt action -06 or whatever caliber it might be in. Remington 700, Winchester 70, Ruger 77, and for a bargain without losing too much performance, the Savage 110. If you're a close range hunter(i.e. inside 150 or so yards) the lever action 30-30 in a marlin 336 would be a trusty gun to grab.
