Nothing harsh about it!
I've herd/read all of the Ruger bashing on this and other sites, and it gets a little tiring.
The other firearms makers make fine products as well.
Ruger makes a fine product and yes I own several and will likely buy more of them. I've read where other threads say get Remington/Winchester/etc./etc. because of this or because of that. First is Remingtons because everybody makes replacement parts for them. You can get mod parts from just about every make and modle of aftermarket parts company.
Winchester is running a close second in the aftermarket parts, but now you can't even get a new Winchester from anybody without paying an extreme premium.
I've owned a Savage before and it was a very fine rifle and was accurate from the box. It still had a few minor problems and the aftermarket products is gaining on the Remingtons.
There are bunches of others, that are very fine rifles i.e. SAKO, Weatherby and others.
Then there is Ruger. A hell for stout (IMHO one of the strongest actions made), control round feed plain jane rifle that dosn't have a bunch aftermarket products begging to be purchased because there is not much to mod on a Ruger.
My personal M77 MKII is a .25-06 sporter with a 24" barrel and walnut stock. I had a local gunsmith bed the action and freefload the barrel. Just what most other rifles have done to them, right. I've replaced the factory trigger with a Timney, most other rifles have there triggers worked on or replaced just like I did, right.
Ok that is the extent of the mods to my rifle. That rifle will (with my handloads) consistantly group 3 rounds at one hunderd yards under 3/8". The best group to date is 0.118" for 3 rounds. It will group into about 1/2" to 3/4" at 200 yrds. All I have on that rifle in the way of scope is a Vari-X II Leupold 3x9x40. That will be change to a newer version in the near future.
I personally know of 4 ea Ruger Target (read heavy barrel rifles) models that will just about put all 3 round into the same hole at 100 yards right out of the box. Two in .223, one in .308 and a .25-06. The two .223's and the .308 belong to two of my best friends and I've shot them and they do that with factory loads as well as handloads. So much for the BAD Rugers not being any good, huh.
Without paying 3 times as much for a rifle, which other rifle out there will do the same things with as few mods.
I know that there are several that in all likelyhood will do anything that my rifle will do, maybe. But I dought that any can do much better.
I'm just tired of all the Ruger bashing by people who should know better or don't know because they don't have a Ruger.
