Let me explain a bit about my local area. I'm in Southern california, a little east of Los Angeles ( Ontario ). There are 10 ranges within 100 miles of me, and all have CAS clubs ( as well as other shooting activity), and 7 are within about an hours drive.
I am one of the owners of one SASS CAS club. We have a few more than 400 members, and generally get about 80 shooters at our monthly matches. Another club a little South gets about 120 shooters at their match, and many of the other clubs run around 50-60 shooters at monthly matches. One club is OWSA, one is NCOWS, and the rest are SASS.
Many of us have been with SASS for 20+ years and are getting a bit tired of it. Most of us have a number of old Military rifles/handguns that we enjoy playing with. So it seemed only natural to dvelope the "Wild Bunch" game that could be plyed along with CASS.
We use any firearm that was in production in 1916, with the exception of receiver mounted aperture sights ( 03A3's, 1917, MK4 etc are not allowed ).
The course of fire is the same as the CAS match, except we place seperate rifle targets at a greater distance, and at present we only fire 5 rounds of rifle ( may go to a rifle reload someday ). The handguns fire 10 rounds in two 5 rd strings requiring reload. And we shoot as just another posse along with the CAS group.
If you check out our BP site, www.brimstonepistoleros.com, you'll find the announcement of the up coming match and some info.
It isn't necessary to match up the guns, although I like to do so. I shoot either a Stevens 520 or Win 97 shotgun, and 03Mk1/1911, Ross 05 or Lee #1/Webley MK-VI, Steyr 88 or 95/Steyr '12, Mauser 98/Mauser96 or Luger, Mosin 91/Nagant 95, and this time think I'll use a S-R K11 and a Swedish Nagant.
This a fairly new activity around here and we are still trying to get all the clubs to observe the same basic rules.
