Dealers
Blktail...not too many dealers break the law...at least not grossley. And most of the time unknowingly. It is very hard being a dealer. And keeping the license. There are way too many rules that are easily broken. And the BATF makes new rules almost monthly. Not laws...rules! To give you an idea. On my last inspection of my records I received a violation for missing a question on the 4473. A State Police Sergeant had failed to answer the question about whether he had renounced his citizenship(a really stupid question as an alien can buy a gun in the US) My fault because I missed his omission. The BATF inspector got bent out of shape over it. I couldn't just fill it out for the cop..I actually had to call him to ask if he could come in and check no on the form..even though 4 days after that purchase he had bought another rifle and filled out the questionnaire correctly. Technically they could actually take your license from you for something so minor. you know here in the US it is fairly easy to buy and sell guns..even from a private citizen. Here in Wyoming you see them advertised every day. Crooks historically steal theirs from people or buy them from a private person. Lickily we still have the right to own and dispose of firearms privately. I dread the day we cannot. I do try to be a little careful who I sell a firearm to.
This Bloomberg thing is basically boiled down to the fact that they want access to all the BATF records of gun purchases..which is illegal under the Laws of the US. They want to be able to use the records to harrass and sue legally operating firearms dealers. Who is next? The little old lady who's husband passed away who may have sold some of his guns??...Legally I might add
Now of course if a dealer is selling firearms illegally he will and should be dealt with by the law... But this isn't really what the Bloomberg mess is all about. If these dealers were doing something illegal They would no longer be in business. This is about power. They have the money and trhe dealer can't stay in business if he has to pay lawyers fees to fight the big guys. Kinda like fighting the gummit.
Now as an aside the cop actually showed up at the shop while the guy was doing the records check. I didn't get to call him. He just came in. I told him what was going on. He was a little indignant when the BATF guy got on his case. He even said how about a little professional courtesy. BATF guy said he broke the law. Well, he filled out the question. He got ready to leave and the BATF guy asked the easiest way to another shop in Delaware. I told him..the cop left...and about 30 mins later the BATF guy went. The cop later told me he was patrolling his normal beat and the BATF guy came by him doing 73 in a 50 MPH zone. When the cop was writing the ticket..for 175 bucks..the BATF guy actually asked for a little professional courtesy. The cops reply??..Can't do it..you broke the law!
