Gil,
I am testing all the ammo I bought since the last good range days last Fall. Today, it was 68 degrees and sunny at 10:00a.m. Loyal hound and I took a truck load of arms and ammo to the backyard bench.
I found out that silvertip Russian Ball ammo (about 150 grains) shoots 7 inches high in my M91/30 Mosin dated 1942. I got two different other lots of Russian Ball (some was wrapped in 20-round lots in kraft paper secured with a string) and the other was boxed 15 rounds to the box. That stuff was great, windage was perfect and the groups were +2 inches at 100 yards. I wished I had bought 500 rounds more of that stuff.
I tested Swiss Ball in the K31 and M1911 Karabiner and it was great. I am glad I bought all the vendor had at the gunshow. I also picked up a dozen of those Swiss 6-round chargers and happily am good to go with the Swiss arms.
We finished off by shooting the flinter muzzleloaders and rang the gongs all across my far hill side.
