I cover my garden with grass clippings so I really don't have to water. What watering I do is from a bucket I keep next to the water heater, catching the overflow.

Last fall, I covered over all of my sections of garden but one with leaves and grass clippings. This spring the bare one was hardpan, the rest were almost too wet to till.

Getting a bumper crop this year, from beets, peas, bush beans, pole beans, cayenne peppers, tomatos, lettuce, spinach, strawberries and cucumbers. The jury is still out on the carrots and corn.
