I live in Jackson County, home to Southern Michigan Prison, the largest walled prison in the U.S. The big topic this summer was an attempt to put in air conditioning! Apparently, the inmates compained that it was too hot, and some liberal decided to make it an issue. The debate raged back and forth in the local newspaper, and even included letters to the editor from inmates, complaining about how difficult it was for them.
Difficult?!? How difficult is it to get up every morning, have someone cook and clean and do your laundry for you, while you lounge around chain smoking, watching cable TV and trolling for your next "girlfriend"?
The inmates sure as heck aren't going to pay for it, our governor can't be trusted with the bottle deposit account, 1/3 of the county is either out of work or marking time in a minimum wage job somewhere, so the burden of the cost of this would fall on... guess who?
I don't have A/C in my house, yet I'm expected to pay for it for a bunch of people who screwed up so bad over and over that they ended up there? (This would include, by the way, the guy who shot and killed my wife's uncle.) I don't think so.
