Mr. 16 gauge,
My all time favorite place to visit is Fort Ticonderoga. The last time I visited, I drove a mile or two South and drove up to Fort Defiance; The British gun emplacements that caused Ticonderoga to be abandoned in 1777. Despite subordinates' advice to fortify that strategic hill, General Gates declined to post a company or two on the heights.
I have been to Gettysburg and on my last visit rode a big horse over the Wheatfield and by Devil's Den. I like to go to far Northern NH, up by the Connecticut Lakes, and walk the land that was the first seceeded piece of the US in history. In the early 1800s, Northern NH seceeded from the US and formed the Republic of Indian Stream. There was a disagreement over Canadian infringment and lack of NH support, so the locals formed an independent nation for about 10 years and then rejoined NH and the US.
