Deer in the Chesapeake

Have seen more than one deer swimming in the Chesapeake and it's rivers. Have hauled 2 deer aboard boats to try to save them. One may not have needed saving but the other did as it was floundering pretty badly. Deer can swim amazingly well. I hunted across from Eastern Neck Wildlife refuge and saw deer swimming either to it or away from it quite often...in an area that was almost 2 miles across from shore to shore. I once saw more than 50 deer leaving the island at one time. Of course they were having a muzzleloader deer hunt on the refuge that day....to thin the herd down a little ya see. They are not dumb. A friend said that when they started to shell an island near Aberdeen Proving Ground that the deer left the island en mass. He worked on the Proving Ground. Said the Eagles left too!
