When we flew to Florida last month, we put all the shampoo and other liquids we didn't need for the flight in the checked baggage. The only thing they were really interested in was the carry on stuff.

It seems as though somebody tried to make a bomb out of a liquid explosive and that is the reason for the limitation. Me, I am fine with not being able to carry on as much liquid as I want as long as the plane remains in one piece. I bet the passengers from 9/11 would have something to say if they could come back from the dead.

What is even scarier is that I recently read that a couple of major airports failed security tests 75% of the time when TSA agents tried to get bomb stuff through. That percentage is just utterly scary. If anything, you should be worried that they aren't screening hard enough. Yeah, I hate going through those air puffers, taking my shoes off and putting them through the x-ray, and almost getting a cavity search, but if that plane stays in one piece the entire flight, I am plenty happy for the discomfort once we land.
