Skeeter,
They are not coming down hard on DUI's as part of a gun issue. The two are completely separate. Do you have any idea how many people die in auto accidents a year? It is over 40,000. I don't know the statistics of how many are alcohol related, but I'm sure there are a decent amount.
Me, I had a client that was hit by a drunk driver and she was almost killed. She was in a coma for 3 days and the ICU for 7 days. It took her a year to get back to work, and even then she was still suffering from headaches and she was on two drugs for it. It was his 4th offense and the judge only gave him 10 months, with 6 months of work release. Maybe, just maybe, I might have been able to understand it if it was his first offense and he almost killed somebody, but it was his 4th and he obviously didn't learn from the previous 3.
I have an ex-client that just went through his 3rd DUI and he served all of a week. Last week, he pled guilty to driving without a license for his 4th time, and he got probation. So, does it really matter if people lose their license for DUI's?
With all that said, you can bet that I wouldn't be giving out my social security number for a hunting or fishing license. Heck, I don't even need to give it out to get my driver's license.
Skeeter, you should really check with the SSA to see when somebody, something, or a governmental agency can request your social security number. I would guess that this has a lot of issues with the privacy laws.
