Hey Jack

After selling all that stuff all those years... I have to agree. I sold scopes and binocs and the average person couldn't tell the difference from one to the other. Some could. A lot of the people that bought the high end stuff were just buying them because they heard they were the best...not cause they could tell. The average guys and gals though...bought what they could afford. Meaning usually one of the cheaper costing brands. Some would buy the cheaper scope when they bought the rifle or slug gun and then put a better one on in 6-8 months time. Mainly cause the money ain't always there for the best. Some actually saved their"mad money" till they could buy the good stuff. They knew that the more expensive stuff was better and would last a lifetime.
