Tks all...What he ended up with was a 338 instead. Gander Mtn had a good price on one and scope etc etc....Now we took it to the range and after 2 boxes out of the thing to sight in, it went back to the shop at GM...It was tossing rounds from a foot low and left to a foot high to right...and that was 100yds. The $300 scope was not moving around as first thought...What I checked was the bolt under the stock figuring it might be bending the barrel and we could not budge the thing. The smith at GM had a heck of a time getting it loose too at the shop and all he wanted to know was why did we want to take that bolt out in the first place....da..first to clean?....too much tension?...anyhow..it has not been fired since all that...interesting to know if that could of been the problem..As a test one day at the range I shot my .223 at 100yds with stock resting on bags..(shoot eye out of hogs at over 200yds)... then I rested the barrel on the bag and the POI was changed so much I could not believe it...so everything has to be just right...it does make a difference.
