Hard to say if it was intentionally shot in the head, but if so, that will be a lesson, things don't always work like in the movies. Why risking a shot like that when one in the boiler room is larger, easier, and shuts the motor down is hard to figure out sometimes. Same with rifles, just because they run off doesn't always mean you missed, coulda blown the jaw off and you won't find it either. Of course, only that shooter will know the whole story, so it is only speculation at this point.
That looks like it was quite painful though, razor sharp blade chewing away on your jaw hinge, ouch, all the while you're just trying to eat! Waidmannsheil, Dom.
