Somewere packed away I have a very old field and stream collection I inherited. With it is a catalog (I believe it was a wolf mountain catalog but could be wrong) that is almost as old as I am. I kept the catalog because in it was a Ruger 10/22 takedown rifle in a leather briefcase with scope, iron sights, magazines, and room for four boxes of ammunition. It was designed for small game hunters on the go, according to the ad. The price list on it was $24. . . . . .

In one of the field and streams was a ad I remember for a hawkens rifle in 50 caliber hawkins for $34 plus shipping. It included a leather scabbard, and a round ball mold for it. I will never forget it because I was already hooked on Jeremiah Johnson (the movie) when I first saw the ad in the magazine.

You just don't see those kinda great ads anymore

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. - John 3:16 KJV

Then I commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry: for that shall abide with him of his labour the days of his life, which God giveth him under the sun. - Ecclesiastes 8:15 KJV

"The gun has been called the great equalizer, meaning that a small person with a gun is equal to a large person, but it is a great equalizer in another way, too. It insures that the people are the equal of their government whenever that government forgets that it is servant and not master of the governed." - 40th President of the United States Ronald Reagan 1911-2004
