With any of the Rem. 740, 742, 7400 etc. semi autos you hae to make sure that the chamber is clean. Get a chamber brush for it and wipe out chamber after everytime used. Rem too cheap to chrome plate the chambers and that is where most of the jamming problems start. I'm with you though, get a good lever action, but keeping the 750 well maintained it will be a good gun.
