The original AWB was a temporary trial that was to be voted on later as a permenant measure. Bush and congress ignored the ban when the original bill expired, and didn`t vote to renew it.
If you think nothing seems to be permenate look at the 1968 handgun laws or short barreled shotgun rules. When it comes to firearms the laws don`t change once they`re in place except maybe to get worse......
