I'm also a fan of belt pouches. They are good for many purposes. In the last few years, however, I have gone to "fanny packs". The bigger ones can hold a sandwich (or 2 or 3 Buckhunter), a couple of water bottles and other assorted gear (e.g., knife, compass, extra ammo). I also have a small one about the size of the belt pouch shown in the post, and choose one suitable for the outing. The thing these all have in common is a separate belt (nylon) that allows them to be quickly removed without unbuckling the pants belt. My bigger fanny pack has a padded hip belt and acts as a shelf to provide additional support to my day pack.
