Never been to Africa, but these are the items that I would deem "necessary" in addition to rifle, binos, and ammo (I do not consider a range finder "necessary"....if I think it its too far away, then it IS!")
Extra water, salt tablets, compass, knife or blade of some kind, matches/lighter (some means of starting a fire), small first aid kit, small length of rope or twine, and a rain poncho.
With the above mentioned items, I think I could survive comfortably if needs be.
