Jon, there are more parts available for the 1911 than for any other handgun, I think. The Brownells catalog must have 50 pages of parts for 1911's!
I seriously doubt you'll wear out a 1911, unless you never lubricate it, or try to turn it into some super magnum. Change the springs every 10,000 rounds, and you're good to go.
