On a 336, the extractor will hold the case rim until the ejector kicks the case out. Check and make sure your ejector is in place and working properly - it's easy to have the ejector drop out when you remove the bolt to clean the rifle. You will have to remove the bolt to check it- the ejector is on the left side of the action, and held in place by the bolt.
