We do not have the number of bear in Michigan to support a spring season.

It is hard to get tags for the fall for the areas that are not clear over on the far west side of the UP. It takes a lot of gas to maintain baits prior to the hunt unless you hire a guide.

If I want to hunt around home (west side of lower penninsula) it would take close to 10 years of applying to get enoough preference points to draw a tag. You only get one preference point a year to build up to the 10 that it takes to draw. I think I have 7 or 8 right now.

Edit I just checked. I only have 7 points so I hope my body holds out so I can hunt in another 3 years.
