Obviously that "1200FPS" rating is by using the not-very-accurate alloy pellets. I would avoid anything that will break the sound barrier, as it won't stabilize. I like around 900-950 FPS in a .177 pellet rifle. Also lower noise signature, making it more 'neighborhood friendly'.
Be sure to try a wide variety of lead pellets, as air rifles are as picky on their ammo as rimfires.
