I think I would have bought it, too.
Is the Balfor scope a plain Balfor (adjustments in the mount) or a Balfor B.
Reason I ask is, the B&L mount with the adjustments in it is in some demand. I've seen them go for 150$. 1954 should be the plain Balfor, if the rifle was scoped when originally purchased.
The Balfor B was B&L's first internal; adjustment scopes - quite good scopes, for their era, but not up to today's glass, especially the lens coating.
