I like the .284 bullets myself and certainly the larger 30 caliber rounds for longer ranges. I've taken a few animals over 600 yards without the aid of a tactical type scope but I've been shooting longer ranges for most of my adult life. I wouldn't mind putting said scope on a .300 RUM, that could be an interesting combination. With some of the long range type bullets today (Cutting Edge Bullets, Berger, Sierra etc) one could find endless possibilities. However, like most of us, my ranges on big game tend to be much more moderate than long range. In Africa, I'd say my average range on big game is 250 yards; with dangerous game 25-70 yards.
