Not real recent, but. .. I made the mistake of perusing the gun auction sites a while back. Always ends up that I say to my self 'Hmm, I got dies for that'..... and then if the price is lower than I think it oughta be, well. . .
Anyway, ended up with a Herters J9. Got it pretty cheap, I suspect partly because only us old geezers would recognize what it is. This one's in 6mm Remington. Probably the chambering being discontinued helped keep the price down, too. Had dies, and even a few boxes of ammo and/or brass in inventory, so I was happy. Always liked the 6mm Rem.
This one had an old Bushnell Command Post scope on it, 4x. If I coulda got it focused clearly for my eyes, I woulda kept it on there (I think it's me, not the scope). So, I picked up a Bushnell Trophy 3-9, and had some Redfield mounts in the parts box, so I'm good to go.
From the rifle's appearance, I think it was a safe queen - little wear, no rust, and fortunately not over oiled. Actually, it was kinda dry.
So, I worked up a good deer load for it. . . and then never got to use it. A friend of mine took up deer hunting when she retired, and she's a slender woman with bone density issues. A light kicker fits the bill for her nicely, so the rifle's on loan.
