HI QUIG

A FRIEND OF MINE HAS THE PRO CHRONO, I DON'T KNOW WHICH MODEL, BUT IT WORKS REAL WELL. I HAVE A SHOOTING CHRONY BETA MASTER. MINE WORKS WELL ENOUGH TO FIGURE BALLISTIC CHARTS FOR LONG RANGE SHOOTING. AND BE ACCURATE.

OF COURSE THE SNOBS WILL BE GLAD TO TELL US ANY CHRONO LESS THAN A OEHLER MODEL 43 PBL IS JUNK. THEY ARE THE SAME ONES THAT SHOW UP AT THE RANGE WITH $1500 SCOPES. WHOOOPIE, I'M IMPRESSED. NOT.

A LITTLE STORY ABOUT MY CHRONO. RIGHT AFTER I PURCHASED IT I CALLED THE COMPANY BECAUSE I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND SOMETHING IN THE DESTRUCTIONS. ANYWAY, THE LADY ASKED ME WHICH MODEL I HAD. AND I JUMPED RIGHT OUT THERE AND SAID THE MASTER BETA. THERE WAS A PAUSE AND THEN SHE STARTED GIGGLING. THEN I REALIZED WHAT I HAD SAID. I WONDER IF SHE COULD SEE MY BLUSH OVER THE PHONE. I FELT LIKE A NICKLE WAITING FOR CHANGE.

A FEW WORDS OF WISDOM. IF YOU PURCHASE A CHRONO, DON'T USE THE METAL RODS THAT ARE FURNISHED. REPLACE THEM WITH WOODEN DOWELS. WHY? YOU MIGHT ASK. BECAUSE ONE TIME I SHOT MY CHRONO. NOT FUNNY MCGEE. I HIT ONE OF THE RODS AND THE BULLET THEN HIT THE BACK OF THE CHRONO. AND I COULD DO NOTHING, OTHER THAN STAND THERE IN AMAZEMENT AS MY CHRONO AND TRIPOD DEPARTED DOWN RANGE. I WENT OUT AND PICKED IT UP AND IT WAS STILL REGISTERING THE LAST SHOT FIRED, SO I DOWNLOADED THE INFO FROM INSIDE, SOOTHED MY RUFFLED FEATHERS AND WENT HOME. THE NEXT DAY I SENT IT OFF TO SHOOTING CHRONY. A FEW DAYS LATER I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THEM WONDERING HOW THE 45CAL DENT IN THE BACK OF THE CASE HAPPENED. I TOLD THEM I HIT ONE OF THE DIFUSSERS. THEY CHECKED THE INNARDS AND REPLACED THE OUTER CASE AND SENT IT BACK. NO CHARGE. NICE PEOPLE. BY THE WAY THE WOODEN DOWELS BREAK REAL EASY JUST IN CASE OF AN ERRANT SHOT.

THE FRIEND THAT HAS THE PRO CHRONO IS A GUNSMITH AND HE USES IT TO CHECK VELOCITIES OF WILDCAT CHAMBERINGS. SO I FIGURE IT MUST BE GOOD TO EXCELLANT OR HE WOULDN'T USE IT.

WELL, HAVE A GOOD ONE. ENJOY YOUR CHRONO.

Does the ProChrono have a remote control you can operate from the bench. If not, I wouldn't want it. I like to collect data for several loads, and I wouldn't want to get up and go down range to read the average velocity and reset it every time.

I use a Chrony. It works well enough, especially for handguns. Sometimes it fails register shots from my .223 rifle if the sun is low.

Mark L. it shows the remote as optional. Guess a person could get it later.

I have used both Oehler and Pact. I don't like the idea of putting expensive (or inexpensive) precision electronics in front of the muzzle of my guns. Both of these units have the sensors that are set up fifteen feet in front of the muzzle with a readout back at the bench. The Oehler is very old and needs 120 V AC to operate and it is a bit cumbersome to transport. The pact was purchased to replace the much older Oehler and I tested the accuracy when I bought it. It has proven to be a perfect range chronograph. It operates on a six volt battery and the read out gives each velocity, the mean average deviation (like standard deviation) and average velocity. I can easily transfer this data to my range notes and then to my computer records and trajectory software when I get home.
I use the Pact model 1 exclusively now because the sensors are set on a tripod and the rest of the chronograph fits into my range bag leaving all the space I need for notebook, targets, tape, ammo and cleaning gear. I have sights set up on the sensors so I can set it on target and line it up with my shooting position in no time at all. It is accurate and extremely dependable. The only thing I ever had to replace was one of the sensors when my dog, a puppy then, chewed through the cord. I was told I could patch the cord without affecting the accuracy of the unit but replaced it anyway. I installed a jack for an external battery and use a lantern battery to power it so I can have extended stays at the range without using the charger.
