Opening Day!

Guys and gals...
Sorry I haven't been on here much lately but work has been very tense. The good news is it is OUR time of the year. The bucks are chasin does, the weather is crisp, and we all have an itch in that trigger finger.
I'm heading up north to Roscommon County, Michigan tomorrow night right after work. I'm coming home to load up and grab my son. He is 14 this year, and it is the first deer season for him. I'm not sure who is more pumped up
We went up last Saturday and scouted our area out. I have never seen more buck sign anywhere I've hunted before. You can't eat scapes and rubs, but they sure get the blood a pumping.
I have turned over the Marlin 30/30 to Josh, and I'm taking the new Savage 30-06 bolt action. The 44mag Taurus Raging Bull comes along as back up. I never got a chance to take a deer with that Marlin, so I'm really hoping that Josh gets to be the one to claim the rights to that.
WhenI get back, or get a chance to get on the net, I'll check in and let everyone know how we are doing. For all of you, I wish success and great times. Lets go get our deer and enjoy the comradarie of deer camp. Can't wait to hear the stories!

Thumbs up

Congrats on a great hunt with your son! Glad to hear he got one! I'm gonna be in the UP next week, and hopefully I have as good of luck.

I went out this morn i had to pass on a small 4 point i was rather bummed if my son could have come out he could have shot it.
I saw 9 deer this morn i have a doe permit but have passed becouse i have 2 deer swinging to butcher so i am loong for big horns.
There has been a nice 8 that should go 140 running the area i have not hurd of any one gettng it yet.
I would be happeyer if one of my boys got it but i would be more then happy to vent it lungs.

Glad to hear others are doing well so far.
We didn't have great luck so far. It started out bad when going to my stand opening morning, I found a campsite set up 75 yrds away from it. Thing that pissed me off the most was I knew the guy, and he had met the weekend before when we hanging stands and scouting. I told him where I had put up stands and he said he would hunt elsewhere. That worked out well

Between 5 of us, no one saw a deer opening day. Sunday, I had a took a shot on a small spike right after first light. I'm ashamed to say I rushed the shot. Didn't put a good hit on him, and after tracking it for over 2hours I lost him in the swamp. Never saw real good sign that he was hit hard, so I hope he made it. Nothing makes me feel worse than wounding and losing any animal.
Sunday afternoon, my buddie's son shot a spike for his first deer. Everyone was thrilled and exited for him.
My boy never saw a deer, and decided he was ready to head back to school by Weds. I hunted the rest of the week back here at home. Saw 2 deer in the whole time, and both were at the point of pitch dark.

I haven't given up yet, and hope to connect Thursday morning, or this weekend.
Good luck to everyone with tags to still fill.
