				One in the making

He didn't kill his bird, but we heard and saw enough to keep him pretty excited all morning. He suprised the heck out of me. At 6 yrs old, I had him up at 5:00 in the woods by 5:30 and he was still wanting more by 9:30. Tally for the day: 4 Salamanders (Red-spotted Newts), 1 frog, 1 centipede, 2 hens, 1 jake, 1 longbeard, 2 turkey feathers and plenty of gobbling. Notice the big grin ...

We need more kids like that out there in the woods. I can't wait until my 5-year-old daughter is big enough to hold a bow (albeit a kid-sized one) (or a gun, for that matter - I have a .22 that has her name on it).

Yeah, Santa brought him a Cricket .22 for Christmas. He was pretty deadly with the peep sights, but once dad put a scope on it, not a pop can is safe within 40 yards. His shotgun required a little modification on the stock to fit him, but I think if we get a bird into 25-30 it'll be toast. He's all fired up about this weekend already. I wasn't really planning on taking him out until small game season, but he's shown me he can definately sit still enough, so I'd say I got a partner come archery season this fall.
