Browning licenses right to make Winchester guns

Found this article and thought some of you might be interested in it.

"WINCHESTER, BROWNING LICENSE AGREEMENT . . . Winchester announced Tuesday that it has entered into a long-term license agreement with Browning for the manufacture and distribution of Winchester brand rifles and shotguns. "With this new agreement, Winchester is confident that Browning will produce innovative firearms worthy of the Winchester name, continuing a tradition that people around the world associate with the Winchester brand," stated Richard Hammett, president of Winchester Ammunition. "We are proud of our heritage as The Gun That Won the West and consider this arrangement as entering a new era for the legendary Winchester firearms brand." The New Haven Register reported the deal signals the end of production in the city, where Winchester firearms had been manufactured for more than 140 years. The Register also ran a story Sunday in which a spokesperson for Olin Corp., the owner of the Winchester name, explained the company's decision."

That was last week. They just withdrew from discussion. Unless a deep pockets buyer comes out of the woodwork, Winchester is dead.

That is some terrible reporting. How does discussing the possibility of a licensing agreement equate to "Winchester announced Tuesday that it has entered into a long-term license agreement with Browning." How could Winchester make that announcement if it hadn't already entered into an agreement with Browning, and if Winchester didn't make that announcement, then how could a reporter write something like that? Sounds like a bunch of carelessness on somebody's part.

You are assuming far too much

first your assuming that the media knows the truth when it's in front of them.

second your assuming they can tell the truth even if they
reconise it.

third your assuming the report had a brain that at least functioned partialy.

4th your assuming that the editor can read and knows any grammer

Yes I know mine is not too hot but I do not pretend to be a journalist

Winchester DID make that announcement- the press release was posted on Winchester's website last night.
It is always convenient to shoot the messenger

but, I can hardly blame a reporter for believing a press release about Winchester that comes directly from Winchester.

Winchester and Browning are Co-producers anyway. The WSSM and WSM only really being made by browning and winchester.
I believe we have seen the last of the Americian made Winchester's but just the begining of the Asian import winchesters.

The Name is all that matters, Could we see a lever action winchester with a mag and Pointed bullets alias the BLR from browning. Other combo's?

I fail to see the importance of who actually manufactures a product as long as the product is made to specs.

I have 2 1892 Winchesters, neither made by Winchester. Both are stainless steel (my favorite stuff). One is a 20 inch rifle in 454 Casul (Puma) distributed by Legacy Sports. The second is also stainless steel, a carbine in 45 Colt (Rossi).

Even though they aren't actual Winchesters, I'm tickeled pink with them, and you all immediately knew what they were. Same as a clone 1911. I paid $250.00 for the carbine, and you can't buy a stainless steel Winchester.

Modern materials and manufacturing methods are making classic guns even better. Mike the throats of several original Peacemakers and then check one of the better replicas. Guess which is better and more accurate?

I love the old originals as well, but I shoot the newer ones and drag them around with me.
