I didn't watch him much, but I enjoyed him when I did. I understand he worked a lot with Red Skelton. He will certainly be missed. The guys on the radio said that today's generation probably does not know who Carson is and definately has not seen him on TV. He retired 13? years ago.

I used to stay up just long enough to watch his first ten minutes of the show. That was usually the best, but it was a good show. He will be missed.

Carson did the Tonight Show from 1962 to 1992, and pretty much defined what late night talk shows would be.
About every comedian you've ever heard of got his start on the Tonight Show.
His last guest was Bette Midler, who said of him today, "He had a little bit of devil, a whole lot of angel, and great class."

Johnny was a class act all the way. He could be risque' without being obscene or offensive. Wish more folks were like that today. When I was 5 or 6 my Mom would let me and my sister stay up late on Fridays during hunting season when Dad was away to watch him (and Saturday Night Live on Saturdays). Although I didn't know the term for it, I thought he was cool. When he retired, I was 22 and still thought he was cool. Not too many individuals can cross that area from little kid to young adult and remain "cool". I also remember when I was younger my favorite part was the "Tea time movie" skit with the rather well endowed woman with him. Probably my first realization that 'da girlz was different than 'da boys. We'll never see the likes of him again.

Thumbs up Carson Was A First Rate Class Act!

I agree with all of the above posts-Johnny Carson broke the mold for late night talk show hosts when he retired. I enjoyed his monologues (as a young kid through my young adult years-who can hold your attention like that nowadays?) Watching all of the networks playing some of his skits really makes me appreciate just how talented a person that he was. Although I am not a Tonight Show watcher these days, I thought that Jay Leno did a nice job remembering Johnny on last night's show.

One thing that I learned over the weekend that I thought was cool is that apparently Johnny Carson would still write some jokes for Dave Letterman's show after he retired. Whenever Dave would use one of Johnny's jokes, he would silently acknowledge it with Johnny's patented golf swing. I had seen him do this myself before but never drew the corrolation. Pretty kewl! Johnny will be (has been) missed!
