Man Killed, Trooper Injured in Vincennes Shootout

A shootout in Vincennes has a bloody ending as the gunman is killed -- and a state trooper is injured.

Around noon Tuesday, an Indiana State Police Trooper attempted to pull over Tracy Schlomer, 36, of Vincennes -- an ex-convict suspected of carrying an automatic weapon in his vehicle.

But Schlomer, and a passenger in his vehicle -- Stephen Liddle, 29, also of Vincennes -- fled the scene in their vehicle, leading police on a high speed chase.

The chase came to an end when Schlomer lost control of his car and slammed into a utility pole.

That`s when police say he drew his weapon and fired away at officers.

Cops from Vincennes, Knox County Sheriff`s Department and State Police returned fire.

As trooper Jason Allen arrived on the scene, a slug went through his windshield and struck his bullet proof vest.

Police shot and killed Schlomer in the gunfight.

Liddle was treated and released from Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes then locked up at the Knox County jail on charges of resisting law enforcement.

Trooper Allen was also taken to Good Samaritan Hospital and was treated and released.
