Another Dog
Well we got another hunting dog in our Shelter that needs a home.
German Wirehair, 1 year old and has papers. High strung pup the owner just let run but young enough to make a good dog. He is on petfinder.com - SD-Stugis Hope we can get him a hunting home. Thanks

In another post Fabs had some reservations on this dog after the owner had let him run.
I will say this that the person that gets this pup must understand the make-up of the German Wirehair. He is very typical of the breed. I will also go so far and say that if we do not find the right home for this pup I will have him well on his way to hunting for the hunter in two weeks and you can bet he will sell for way more then our $25 adoption fee. We have hunting dogs in our Shelter every week and most of them are just good old house and kids dogs . We get a truck load of labs every year and not to single out that breed but there is just alot of them in this area. I have run across very few with the hunting drive it takes to bother working with. The dog is too old, bad habits or just knot heads but they do make fantastic family pets. There ya go Fabs if I don't produce I will buy you a prime rib and if I do you owe me the same lol

IF YOU TRAINED ALL THE DOGS BADS HABITS OUT WHAT WOULD YOUR CHARGES BE INCLUDING THE KENNEL FEES? KINDLY REMEMBER I'M PUSHING 70 AND I DON'T WANT A MISMATCH FOR THE DOGS SAKE. I'M NOT DEAD YET BUT I DON'T WANT THE DOG TO FEEL LIKE HE'S GETTING SHORT CHANGED EITHER. LET ME KNOW, OK?

Billy let me do some evaluation on this pup as I will be back at work Tuesday and then I can see just what type we have.
He don't have any bad habits that I have seen just a ton of Wirehair puppy energy.

Sure wish that I had room for another dog. I'd be over there in a minute, well maybe an hour. Did you get any pics of him Nulle? If I had your job, I'd be packing dogs home with me all the time. Let me know if you need any assistance with getting him adopted and I'll put out the word over here.

Well the first day went better then expected. Bark did very well on the short lead and was a perfect gentleman on the leash.
He acts alot better outside then in a kennel thats for sure. First week will be just the basics and the second week I will start the introduction to birds. Might not have him that long as we had 87 hits on him in a week. gsp: There are some pretty good pics of him on petfinder.com just go to SD and click on Bark under Sturgis. This goof-ball got a mouth big enough to swollow football. lol

Nulle, I don't remember posting anything about this particular dog. I might have posted in another thread about not wanting somebody else's problems, and I think Nevada Jim agreed with me on that one and possibly a couple other people too.
Now, that does not mean that every dog being put up for adoption will be a problem dog. For instance, Petey had to get rid of one of his labs because of the new baby I believe, and I honestly though about taking the dog, but it just wasn't what I wanted in my lab (i.e., a big, tall, powerful male). I believe all of Petey's dogs were female and slightly on the smaller side. Those dogs are pretty good hunters and they had AKC papers. I thoroughly understand that some people have to get rid of their dogs for reasons they cannot control, and that doesn't mean that the dog is a headache. I would just need to know the history of the dog before deciding to take it. As far as this dog is concerned, he looks really good and I would take your word on his ability. I truly hope that you can get the dog to Billy D., and Billy, I believe Nulle said it will cost $25, which is a great price for this dog. I just do not believe in going to the pound, picking out a lab, and hoping that it works out. Like you said above, a lot of the labs you get in their just do not have the hunting drive. Nitro shakes with excitement when we are in the blind and I start calling or he sees waterfowl. When I watch waterfowl hunting on the TV, he breaks out of a sound sleep whenever he hears a duck call and he has his ears perked up. That is what I want in my hunting dog. Of course, it has its down sides. He has so much energy and excitement that splinters are coming out of my hardwood floor when he hears those duck calls or he knows we are going outside for some training. Looking on the bright side, the floors can always be sanded down in about 10 years. Oh yeah, regardless of whether or not you produce, I would be honored to buy you a prime rib, or any other steak for that matter, if I were in South Dakota. I am hoping to get up that way for some pheasant hunting sometime in the near future, so I might just take you up on the offer to buy you a steak.

fabs: Nevada Jim ? We got our lions crossed here someplace for sure .? Take a look at the "training puppy" post .
sask: We have shipped dogs out in the past and best is with a direct flight. I take them to the airport with health papers and they check the kennel and dogs for drugs and off they go. Only transfer fee on papers would be with the organization. I go to work at 5am till 1pm and usually at the Shelter at 10:30 but my Shelter tech Michelle got all the answeres lol. Oh = Bark is intack .

Nulle: sounds like you have things well in hand on this dog and in response to Fabs comment, I agree that in normal cases when you pick up a dog at a pound sometimes you are getting someone's problems, but when you have a trainer at that pound like Nulle who obviously knows dogs, I wouldn't be concerned about taking his sayso on a particular dog. That's not to say that even he will know the dog 100%, but he will have a pretty good handle on what the dog is all about.

Nulle,
I checked the "training pup" thread and the comment in there was inadvertantly made to you, but meant for DS's prior comment about letting the dog catch birds on its own. Like I said, I do not remember making a negative comment about this dog. Read through the "training pup" thread in it entirety and you will see what I meant. I changed "Nulle" to "DS" in my post and I think that should pretty much make it clear as to what I was saying.
