Anyone else from Oklahoma?
I live northwest of Oklahoma City and hunt just about everything I legally can. Any other Okie's out there?

Yep, From OKC
But, like you, I hunt all over. Mostly on a few places in Payne County, and then down in Coal County. I grew up in Hennessey in NW OK chasing whitetails up and down the Cimmaron River. And I've spent quite a few hours in a stand up north around Nash and the Great Salt Plains.
I got to get out and hunt this past weekend, opening days for Bowhunting. As you know, it rained all night Friday. Saturday morning the rain moved out about 7:45 and deer were moving all over the place for about an hour. Then, I never saw another deer for a day and a half. Good luck to you this season. |

Any deer movement reports
I've been hunting every weekend since Oct 1. Finally starting to see a little more activity.
Until this weekend, the deer were moving very little and only very early and very late. I saw quite a bit of rubs and a few scrapes pop up a few weeks ago during the cold spell. Twice this weekend I saw a buck with a single doe. In one instance a smaller 6 pointer was chasing a doe around a hay bottom. They were running in circles as hard as they could go. I'm thinking rut is getting close but still probably a week or so away in our area. Any thoughts |

Full moon is on Nov 16th.....
You can about bank on, around here anyhow, they will be gettin with the program by the 9th or 10th, hot and heavy. No matter what the weather or anything else is doing. A week ahead, to the full moon in Nov is always THE peak rut here. Or, as close to always as huntin gets anyway...... Happens every year. Our rifle season here opens on the 12th, so that just suits me right down to the ground. Andy |

What's everyone else from OK....
....seeing in the deer woods. I saw a young buck chasing a doe in circles last week. Then on Sunday, I saw a very nice buck come up behind 6 does, scent check them and then move back out. I had a young buck come in to a grunt call pretty aggressively. It appears to me that early rutt has started, but may be slowed a bit from the hot afternoons. Anyone else got a rut report?

Payne County huh?
That's my home place to hunt. My folks and Grandparents live in Perkins, and I hunt a few places east of Perkins off of HWY 33. That's the only place I've hunted deer this season. I live in Edmond, so it's stickly been a weekend get -away. I'm going back this weekend, to see if I can't get a big one hung before rifle season.
Are you seeing much deer movement on the river? Seems like they got things on thier minds right before black powder season and really started to lay down the sign, then it's been slow since then, until this last weekend. I saw several nice bucks trailing does, but nothing too aggressive. What part of the cim. river do you hunt? |

I've got a spot close to the Dunkin Bridge and any of the river owned by Limestone. The rut is on but because of the warm weather it's happening after dark.
When you get all of the deer hunting out of your system we need to talk about Ducks. I've got a Yeller Pup that needs to hunt.

Rut is On on Oklahoma
.......on Thursday evening, I watched a 10 point buck run a doe for over 45 minutes. I watched from a quarter mile away in my truck. At first the doe was laying down, and the buck was 20 yards away on point like a good brittney quail dog. I mean he was locked up solid and didn't move a muscle for over 10 minutes. Then, she jumps up and runs the other side of of thicket and he fell in right behind her. When she stopped the buck nearly ran over her, knocking her forward. She then took off again at full blast for 100 yards and he was running right behind her with his nose on the ground. I thought he resembled Fred Whitfield's calf roping horse, with a concentration that can only be explained by breeding season. Finally, the doe layed down again and the buck went to the nearest tree and just demolished it. I thought at one point he was actually banging his head against the bark. So I guess since rifle season opens in the morning, it's good timing. I think that we've actually been in the rut for a week or so, but the hot weather has kept all activity at night. This scene was something special to watch, and it all went down at 4:00 pm. Good luck to everyone who's hunting the Oklahoma woods this weekend.
