50 bmg being fired
heres a link to some video of the 50bmg being fired.
doesnt look to awfull bad in 22lb rifle. also watch close in the one where hes shooting from a knee at long range. you can just make out the targets hes shooting at. then the youl see the dust ploom appear. http://www.serbu.com/bfgfiring.htm Evan

I've been so busy working on my Mustang, going to car shows, and now I've sold my house and am buying a new one that I haven't found the time to shoot my Barrett M99. I did take a step in the right direction though and bought 150 rds of ammo.
Gregarat--I was told the same thing about the recoil. Hey I'll put you in front of Rocky for the first shot. I'm not really worried about the recoil since the rifle weights around 25 lbs and has a muzzle break the size of your fist. When I do shoot it, I will post some pictures (of me in the hospital)  muledeer

Hey man, if you wanna use me as a recoil tester. Im all for it!
Really there will be no one going to the hospital. The only thing that will hurt is your wallet, from the price of ammo  .

Good luck on your hunt Muledeer!
I've never shot the 50 but have twice been next to a fella at the range (he didn't seem especially friendly...probably from all the folks asking to shoot his BMG) that was bench shooting. The recoil didn't look all that bad with all the goodies (break, tripod, etc.) but the concussion and sound waves went right through your bones to the back of your fillings in your mouth!  Everbody in their stalls would pause (not from courtesy either, mind you) just prior to the 50 launching before even attempting to take their own shots.

Always use a Brake!
In spite of the rifle's 24 pound weight, without the brake its recoil can cause retinal detachment. A good brake can reduce the recoil by 81%.
Examples: 24# - 700 grn @ 2700 fps - 137 ft-lbs w/o brake 24# - 700 grn @ 2700 fps - 26 ft-lbs with brake 137 ft-lbs is over twice the recoil of a 9# .458 Win Mag firing 500s.....ouch.

I have the pleasure of having fired a .575 Nyati elephant rifle. It was built on a standard Win Model 70 action: just over ten pounds.
Without the heavy-duty muzzle brake, that gun develops 240 ft-lbs of recoil. It's impossible to stay on your feet, they say. You don't shoot it to stop an elephant's charge - you shoot it to instantly remove yourself from the tusker's path! With the brake, it was about like a .458 Winnie - and the back blast would smartly remove ball caps from observers! I fired two shots, but at $20 a trigger pull, the fun runs out in a hurry. A 50 BMG? Cap gun.

I've had alot of experience shooting the big 50BMG, both in a Barrat and in the Browning 50 cal heavy machine gun. The Barrat is really accurate and the Browning 50 has got me out of some tough spots here in Iraq.
