fur prices
How are your fur prices this year? When I trapped many moons ago we had one buyer come to town after season was over and we had to haggle with him to try and get a decent price but Im sure the way of selling pelts has changed by now.

Fur Prices
You must of had a lot better fur buyer than us because we didn't get any where near that much. Of course we sold in the round instead of stretched and dried.

We skinned , fleshed , and stretched everything we caught. Even used to wash the pelts with ivory soap and sew up the leg holes on the beaver pelts. It was lots of work and probably didnt help the price of the furs much but it kept me and my two trapping partners out of trouble most of the time.

Back in the early 60's before the "imports" the fur prices were quite good with fox and yotes in the $25 and up range and we even got $1.50 for jackrabbits.
I have to agree with Viper1 the prices in our area are junk but we have one buyer also.

My best memory from working the Ravenna Michigan fur sale was the time my son and I were bagging the fur after it was sold. I can't remember the year but it was just before black Monday on the stock market and fur prices tumbled.
A lot of 200 XXL trapped coon had just been sold and my son was trying to figure out in his head what the lot had been sold for. I told him he better help me get the coon in bags as the trapper had 150 outs on the block now. The 200 sold for $50 dollars a piece. The outs brought $34. One heck of a fur check. |

Fur prices were very high at the NAFA auction in February. Marten sold really high and I know of one guy who had 200 marten sell for $104 a piece. Imagine that!
I sold 37 fox this year for an average of $41.50. My high fox was $48.00 and I sold a scraggly one for $2.50 :0 I wish I would have sent them to NAFA as the top lot of fox sold for as high as $160. Next year, I'll gamble and send about 20 of them in to NAFA. NAFA red fox averaged $30.00. I hope to put up a hundred next year. That would make my year! You can check out NAFA at www.nafa.ca
