I was told that blood will spook critters. Its easy enough to clean up if you are careful so I never tested the situation.

i'v never had a problem with blood at one set i caught 7 coon adn there was blood everywhere adn i never had a problem. but i shoot them in the head perferbely in the back of the head it is better i heard but jsut behind there ears if u get in front of the ears then u run into the scicnese so they'll breath funny and be alive still. my first coon i shot like 6 times in teh lungs and it still didnt kill him so shot for the head

If the blood is on the dirt, just sccop the dirt up and throw it off to the side or carry it away from the set.If it is on your trap, and you are not replacing it,rub off the blood with dirt or weeds--again ,take it away from the set .

The guys pretty much covered it. After you shoot a critter hold him down, just use your boot, so he doesn't bleed everywhere. Blood can squirt everywhere. That way you've just got one spot to clean up. You can wash off the blood at the first stream you come to.

It depends on what kind and the location of the set.
If its a dirthole set I carry off "everything" (note everything is in quotes)
If its a pocket set you can just splash water on it.
If its a blind set just make it somewhere else.
Every set has its own personality.
You'll figure it out once you have some experience.
