hunting GPS?
I want a GPS unit that I can use to hunt with and backpack with. I definately would want one I could down load Topomaps on. I would love to have a way to mark where I left the kill. Trail marking for a bushwack would be cool too but I have just started researching this and don't know what I need or don't. What's the best bang for the buck? Please advise.
Thanks in advance, TJ

If I was in the market for a new GPS, this is probably where I would go... http://www.garmin.com/products/etrexLegendcx/
It has expandable memory, colour screen and can be loaded maps (topo & street). I have the same GPS, but not the colour version, and it has come in handy quite a few times.. and it has not been hard on batteries.. Its worth a look.

I was shopping for one last year. I wanted the same things your looking for. I told the sales people at several sporting goods stores what I wanted and they all told me the same thing, Lowrance. This surprised me a lot since I was fully expecting them to say Garmin. I ended up buying the Lowrance HuntC with the topo map system. It does everything I want it to and quite a bit more. The main thing that sold me was I plan on using it for fishing and Lowrance has excellent software for lake maps in my state. It runs on 2 AA batteries and it works as well as I hoped.

I agree with toxic: I picked one up (with the color screen) earlier this year for hunting, hiking and goecaching and it's worked great. Very easy on batteries, light weight, easy to read even in sunlight, nothing but kudos for eTrex Legend Cx.
