Another Church Shooting....
In some states, a person with a CCW license may not carry in certain places like banks, bars and churches. I can see the bar restriction, but churches seem to baffle me. If the state sets up "gun free" zones like in a church, doesn't that make it safer for nuts like that guy in Tennessee a few days ago and other nuts in Colorado and Michigan last year? In Colorado, it is interesting to note, a church member and CCW holder was at the front door and shot the nut.
It seems dumb to assume churches are any safer that the rest of society, in my humble opinion. Some malls hereabouts have their signs up stating, "Gun free zone" and I merely drive on past. I think a permit "To Carry" is just that, official permission to be armed as we go about our business. Adam

Adam, running the risk of sounding like an outlaw, I dont pay much attention anymore to where I am. Unless there are metal detectors, like going in a courthouse, Im packin. My wifes the same way.
Too much crazy stuff going on. Ill steal a line I heard on another board. I would rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6. That about sums it up. |

In Washington State if you have a concealed carry permit the only places off limits to you with your concealed gun are federal buildings, jails, bars and schools. They are trying to change the limit on schools because of the shootings elsewhere.
All cities, counties and unincorporated areas have to comply with the State's laws and no restriction can be any more than the State allows. If a business is open to the public they cannot restrict concealed carry holders from exercising their rights. ________ Vaporizer Affiliate Last edited by PaulS; 04-03-2011 at 03:45 PM. |

In MO, business can restrict and put up signs. However, IF you are caught, and if you are your not following "concealed means concealed" very well, all they can do is ask you to leave. If you dont leave, they call the police and its an infraction, $100 fine. A small price to risk for your life, IMO.
MO also restricts public transit, like busses. However, thats a hot topic right now and may be changed soon. |

I'm a member of a forum that is almost dedicated to church security, enhancement of that security, etc... As I posted just a few minutes ago in the anything goes section, it seems to me that for the majority of Americans, the ones who don't carry because of restrictions are the ones who ultimately are vulnerable and can get hurt.
It's the criminals (and those who really are concerned about their safety like you guys who have mentioned carrying almost anywhere) that don't care about these rules at all. I'm all for CCW, and I'm all for the right to bear arms. It's our protection. I've heard that line before - actually on that other forum - I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6. I think I agree.

Rudy507,
I read a recent article entitled, "Gun Free Zones are Dangerous Places." The author was referring to a few recent mall shootings where the Gun Free Signs ONLY applied to honest CCW folks and did not make a bit of difference to the shooters. Another article (maybe by the same author) discussed the Virginia Tech shooting where the nut reloaded his pistol magazines numerous times to kill 32 and wound 35, as I recall. The point made was that off duty cops and Licensed CCW people were students on campus that day and could have made a difference. The "Brady Bunch" vehemetly disagrees, but they have no solution to such a disaster. I simply got a smaller CCW piece and go about my business; the signs are no more a concern to me than the bad guys. Adam
