wouldnt waste the bullet
Well she certainly has an over inflated opinion of her self importance but then again what politician doesnt. A guy walks into a lobby of a hotel to register carrying a rifle case and this is what comes of it, sad commentary on the situation in some states.

Prosecutors: No charges in convention gun incident
DENVER (AP) — Prosecutors said Monday they won't bring criminal charges against a man who carried guns in a case into a Denver hotel during the Democratic National Convention last month. Joseph Calanchini was arrested Aug. 23 on suspicion of unlawfully carrying a weapon. Police say he had two hunting rifles and two pistols in a case when he tried to check in to a hotel where House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was staying. Pelosi was evacuated from the building. Denver District Attorney's office spokeswoman Robin Finegan said Monday that police never presented the evidence to prosecutors. Police did not immediately have additional information. Calanchini had said he didn't know about the convention or that Pelosi was at the hotel. He says he's relieved the case is closed but hasn't gotten back his guns or other personal items seized from his truck. "It has not been a good experience," Calanchini told The Associated Press in a telephone interview. "I know it was poor timing on my part, but I think it was just an overreaction" by police. Calanchini, a salesman in the oil field industry, said he's lost some work because of the case. He said he brought the guns to Denver to have them worked on before a safari to South Africa. His arrest didn't ruin his plans. He said he was able to get permission from authorities to make the trip, where he rented a rifle and managed to kill a warthog, an impala, a kudu and a wildebeest. link _____________________________

One thing you can count on, if the Dems have a get together it is going to be in an anti gun location. Denver sounds like Miami, without a beach.

Hey Dan,
Maybe they ought to try out E Colfax or 5 points if they want a hotel to worry about! They can have the opportunity to be "their brothers keeper". Leave the freakin' hunters alone. |

LOL, I kinda know how this guy felt, in late 60's, several of us had gone to Oklahoma State Skeet Shoot in OK City.....we had
hotel reservations for weeks...problem....VP Hubert was also booked at same hotel! I was wheeling a cart through lobby loaded with AA's and a number of cased shotguns..........Secret Service went ballistic!!!! Nope...no slammer of confiscations...after lengthy arguments, we and ammo/guns stayed....never got a glimpse of Hubert!!!!! Different times and a different city!!! Dan ![]()

As I have said a million times before, it is the few that give the many a bad name. Personally, I think LEO's do a great job. Could you imagine what it would be like without them. On top of that, I only deal with the criminal element once in a while since that isn't the majority of my practice, and I usually deal with it after the fact. Can you imagine being an LEO in some of the major cities. Can you imagine having to police some of the slums in Detroit, New York, LA, Washington, DC, Baltimore, etc? LEO's see stuff on a daily basis that we might only confront a couple of times in our lives, if that. Yes, there are some bad ones out there, and I have come across a couple of them. Usually, they are the ones that think they know everything. However, isn't that the same with people in general. The ones that think they know everything are usually the PITA's.

Since when was it illegal to travel with some guns going on a hunting trip?? Who cares of the guy didn't have a concealed weapons permit - I may not know the law well enough, but seriously, that seems quite flawed. With that reasoning, any hunter that didn't have a concealed weapons permit could be arrested at any time for picking up their gun!

I think the concealed weapons permit has more to do with the handguns than the long guns. In Maryland, there are pretty specific laws about when a handgun can be cased, and it cannot be cased with ammo in the clips or with ammo in the case. The clips and gun have to be in a case, and I believe the ammo has to be in a different section of the car, but I could be wrong about the sections of the car. Further, the gun owner has to be on his way to or from a range, hunting, or a gunsmith when the handgun is cased. The gun and hunting laws in Maryland are so thick that most people need to be attorneys to understand them, and even me, an attorney, would need to spend a significant amount of time reviewing them to make sure I am always in compliance.

Rudy,
I'm not certain but I think he got in trouble with a city of Denver ordinance on weapons possession which is seriously flawed. It is one of the ignorant laws, similar to the one which was over ruled by the supreme court in DC recently, which law makers made thinking that actual law breaker really paid any attention to laws or the paper it was written on. It also a prime example of why we can't afford to have any anti gunners in the Oval office to make up these type of laws. ie Making it illegal for citzens to own assualt style weapons, so then the only folks that have that type of fire power are the bad guys because they're going to get them whether there is written law or not, hence the term "bad". Of course if they choose to enforce these type of laws the secret service should post the bed and breakfast schedule of all their protectees in the newspaper so us law abiding citzens could avoid "their " hotels. I suppose they could also amend the law to require citzens to call places where they wish to stay to see if any protected person was scheduled for the same night so they could make alternative plans to avoid such conflict. |

As previously stated, Denver gun laws are a work of art....I
responded, just before DNC, to an alarm at office. Brought 45 with me. DPD never asked to see my red card. Stuffed it in my hip pocket...only gun comment while waiting for the dogs was " whacha carrying"...then we got on discussion of guns in general. In all, they have some good common sense troops. Every one of em in my district knows that I am not coming down here in the dark unarmed. Wasn't playing Rambo...just had it on me! BTW, any thing that is a AW or look alike is banned in Denver! Response is why I got the CCW. Dan

Take it from one who knows
![]() ![]() ![]() If you have five police officers and ask them the definition of their own castle doctrine or right to carry laws, you will get five different interpretations. They are confusing ....I had two police officers arguing with 3 others on my situation. The end result....shift change in one hour...arrest her fill out the paperwork and go home..
