big boar guns
I went to gander mountain and looked at guns they had a winchester in 444 marlin it was a guid gun it was ported it is the fist time i have seen a winchester in this caliber.
I also seen a marlin in 450 i had thought that marlin had the guid gun name and it was not on the marlin. Both guns were short and all i could think when i looked at these guns was no one would take great joy in shooting these. Does any one on here have these short big bore guns if they do how do they handel when shot and how do you have it set up. |

Dunno about those in particular but I do know that alot of big boar hunters around here choose the 45-70 using 405gr lead instead. A Marlin in 45 colt hand loaded with 300grain solid lead moving at a good click (IE Ruger/Marlin preassures) works well too. For a little closer on a critter under 500lbs a 12 guage with lead slugs works pretty well, and for the 300lb and unders a good 30-30 works well with 170gr corelokts.
Just a thought, sorry but I haven't shot either of the others. GoodOlBoy

I shot the 444 Marlin once. I was surprised at how light the recoil was and how accurate it was. I would buy one if I had need of one. The Marlin action is so much better than the Winchester lever action.
