1898 Krag

The local gun shop has a Krag rifle on the used gun rack. The exterior is NRA very good to excellent, but the bore is dark and pitted badly. The hang tag says $799.00 and I offered a bit less. It is still sitting on the used rack. Take care...

Long ago I got a Krag with a nice bore for $15. It only has one recoil lug and is not the best gun for anything. I sold it for a little more.

I don't want one but thanks.

My how times have changed

Mike Moss,
You post reminded me of my $15.00 British Enfields and $25.00 Springfields and '98 Mausers. I really miss those days. Take care...

Classic military surplus arms are not cheap today. Hang in there and another one will come along. All the best...

Joe,

I recall when the DCM had A3-03 Springfields for $10! The good old days!

There was a gunshop in CT we called Charlie Bentons. I tried to be there after payday on a Friday. The place was in an old chicken coop and very small and crowded with customers.

While standing there watching the goins on Charlie handed me a trap door Springfield and said to put it in the rack behind me. The store was too crowded for Charlie to get through.

I looked at the tag on it and the price was $25. It was a 45-70 with a rod bayonet. I handed it back to Charlie and said that I would take it.

That was back in the late 50's or so. I shot the trap door some but I was never a collector of that kind of gun and I traded it off.

Joe,

Make an offer on that Krag! I collect Krags, and they do have ONE lug and that was not a problem for the U. S. Ordnance folks, or me. Last December I bought a Mint M1898 Rifle, a few boxes of ammo and original sling for $450.00. I would offer $400 for that rifle.
