Hey Adam
Adam,
Need your advise. I know that in the past you have talked about shooting a 54 Cal. I just happened to pick up a brand new, out of the box 31"- 1 in 66 twist barrel for my renegade Flinter. Along with the barrel I got me a pound of 3F, .530 Speer Balls and .018 Ticking. 80 Gr. was about a 3" 5 shot group at 50 yards today. 85 Gr. yeilded about the same. I ran out of time today due to having to work for a living. Could you spread some past experience with me and give a good starting point.

Pre-64.
I am always glad to share loading data. It sounds like you have a Rounball barrel. I would try 75 grains of 3F and .015 patches. If your .018 works ok, stick with that and try 75 grains since you already tried 80 and 85 grain charges. I use 3F in two of my .54 guns while another likes 75 grains of 2F and patched ball. Good luck. Adam

Adam,
I had to throttle her back a little. 80 and 85 grains of 3F was tear'n the patch up pretty bad. 70 Grains gave me a perfect burn according to the recovered patch and the accuracy was a nice large cloverleaf group at 50. I was hoping to get good performance with full power loads, you never know when one of us crazy front loaders may pack one of these things for Bear ![]() ![]()
