Ramshot?
Has anybody out there reloaded with ramshot powders? Just curious, I was reading an article that was saying that ramshot TAC had the industries highest velocity 80gr 223, but was still well within SAAMI limits. I was also looking at some of the 38 special and 45 colt cowboy loads they listed with their competition powder.
I have never used them, so I was curious. They have some pretty darned good prices. GoodOlBoy

I have never used Ramshot powders (or Rex powders) for one simple reason.....I could never find any reloading data for them!
There is one store in my area that carries Ramshot....but they don't give away (or even HAVE) complimentary reloading data; since they also carry Alliant, Hodgdon, and Winchester powders, guess what I spend my money on? ![]() I've used those powders for years, and I know what I can do with those powders. I remember back a gazillion years ago, when I first started reloading, ALL the powder manufacturers gave away complimentary loading pamphlets...you didn't even have to buy their products to get them. You could take them home, look them over, and decide what you wanted to try, and they had literally hundreds of loads per data; not just a handful like I saw on Ramshot's website. Prices may be good, but I've spent years working up loads for my various handguns/rifles/shotguns with the other guys powders. I don't think I will be switching now, unless I can't get what I need. I think if Ramshot (and maybe even Vithavouri) would have put out more printed data, and made it freely available, they might have more of a following than what they do. Just my 2 cents, FWIW........

Yeah I hear that, its one of the reasons up until now I have stayed with hogdgon/imr and alliant powders. I am also looking at blackhorn 209 as a possible load alternative to my 45-70, but then again I am going to be loading it with IMR trail boss as well.
We shall see, I was just curious. GoodOlBoy

Like most of the rest of you I use exclusively Hodgdon (incluging IMR & Win) and Alliant powders. Like someone else said it's hard to find loading data for the off-beat stuff and, at least in my area, most of the gunshops don't stock it.

See thats the thing, we have a gander mountain about an hour from home and they have a cabinet full of the stuff and are almost out of everything else.
Just a thought. GoodOlBoy

Ramshot powder is all ball powder, and meters quite nicely. Their website has an excellent data page in PDF format - you can download the whole thing.
I use TAC for .223Rem and .30-30Win primarily. Excellent performance. They also were generally available when more popular powders were unavailable during the Panic Buying Spree. So far I have bought and usd three 1-pound jugs of it, and it works so well, I just got my new 8-pound jug of TAC. Good stuff! |

I've used TAC, Big game, & exterminator. I have several of their free-be reloading booklets from the stores. The company will also send you one, did for me anyway. My last TAC order was an 8lb-er from Midway. Get a little Blackhorn 209 for your muzzle-loader to water down your haz-mat fee while your at it.
