My CSM buddy & Obama

I know you guys don't like Obama but I think this is so cool.

I was listening to his speech that he gave in Afghanistan earlier this month, and heard this:

"I want to salute your great senior enlisted leaders, including Command Sergeant Major Scott Schroeder"

Scott and I were junior enlisted together in Germany in the early 80's, I got out after 10, he went all the way to CSM. I don't care who you are, being mentioned by the president is way cool.

The joke is, at the time when he was a SP4, and I was an Sergeant, when he used to get mad at me, he would call me a lifer!

Nice story, thank you for sharing. My hat is off to the Command Sgt Major as it is to all who are serving our country in the Armed Forces.

Cool! Even if it was The Kenyan.....

I only ever heard back from one shipmate from my Navy Daze - he was an E6 (ET1) when I left the Navy in '86, and he rose to Chief. Finally retired a couple years back. He had the time to have gone higher, but he said he got tired of the BS needed at that level. It too often requires more 'political skills' than real working skills, and he always was more a 'techie'.

Yep,
A lot of politics goes into the top ranks, whether enlisted or officers. Plus today it is eductation, most of your E-9s not only have a BS or BA but have a masters degree as well.
