I'm against it. Are you?
I just got this email from someone near and dear to me, but I can't help but disagree because the logic seems to be fundamentally flawed in my opinion. I think we should support our troops. I think we should stand up for liberty and freedom. I think I will delay as much spending as I can until Thursday, January 20, 2005, and start the day with renewing my almost expired membership to the NRA, and then catch up on a few days worth of being frugal.
That will be my way of saying that nobody has to "Give America back to the people". We are the people and America is still ours. Lets keep it. I'd like to see some opinions here, either with or against my opinion. It's hard to insult me, but it's not too hard to get my attention...This got my attention...so please speak up...Thank you... ------------------------------------------------ Don't spend a dime on January 20, 2005 (pass it on) It doesn't really matter that everyone will be out spending what they didn't the next day - a point or two will have been made: Since our religious leaders will not speak out against the war in Iraq, since our political leaders don't have the moral courage to oppose it. Inauguration Day, Thursday, January 20th, 2005 is "Not One Damn Dime Day" in America Day. On "Not One Damn Dime Day" those who oppose what is happening in our name in Iraq can speak up with a 24-hour national boycott of all forms of consumer spending. During "Not One Damn Dime Day," please don't spend money. Not one damn dime for gasoline. Not one damn dime for necessities or for impulse purchases. Not one damn dime for anything for 24 hours. On "Not One Damn Dime Day," please boycott Walmart, KMart and Target. Please don't go to the mall or the local convenience store. Please don't buy any fast food (or any groceries at all for that matter). For 24 hours, please do what you can to shut the retail economy down. The object is simple. Remind the people in power that the war in Iraq is immoral and illegal; that they are responsible for starting it and that it is their responsibility to stop it. "Not One Damn Dime Day" is to remind them, too, that they work for the people of the United States of America, not for the international corporations and K Street lobbyists who represent them and funnel cash into American politics. "Not One Damn Dime Day" is about supporting the troops. The politicians put the troops in harm's way. Now 1,300 brave young Americans and (some estimate) 100,000 Iraqis have died. The politicians owe our troops a plan -- a way to come home. For 24 hours, nothing gets spent, not one damn dime, to remind our religious leaders and our politicians of their moral responsibility to end the war in Iraq and give America back to the people.

In reflection.. I'd rather our troops fight the terrorist backing groups in Iraq or elsewhere than to have more terrorist bombings or whatever here in this country killing and maiming innocent civilians  Why do these people that promulgate these things think it is always the US that is in the wrong?? Sheesh

Skeet, these dingleberries want us to not spend any money on thursday the 20th to protest GW and our involvement in Iraq.
What this protest will do (if people followed it) would be to hurt the average citizen. Like waiters/waitresses that depend on their daily tips, etc. Their website is supposed to be www.black-thursday.com but it isn't working at the moment. More symbolism over substance.  Sore losers.... If Clinton was in GW's position you can bet this wouldn't be happening....

The only thing about the inauguration that bothers me is they are gonna spend like 50 Million on it. D#@n...can't we use it for more ammo or something for our guys... Maybe a little pay raise for the boys in uniform. Otherwise Skinny...you are right and so is GOB with his last statement. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out of OUR country

I agree I will lease them my cow pasture for 1 mil and the rest can go to outfit our boys in the military with better gear, in fact for 1 mil I will even clean up afterwards.

I do know that, during WW11, FDR felt it was inappropriate to have a party while US troops were in combat. Cost of inaugural: O P.S. I did find a Yahoo news story that put the cost of the upcoming inaugural at $40 Mil, but not including security. Same story listed Clinton's '92 inaugural at $32 mil.

THANK YOU.
I'd like to thank everyone for your input. That was sent to me by my mother-in-law. She got it from one of her sisters. (Thank God my wife doesn't follow the same line of thinking.) I have soundly put them in their place and haven't heard from either one since. I really don't think I'll miss them very much, and I know they'll be back sooner or later. I'll just enjoy the reprieve for now.
Now that I think about what I just said, if my wife would follow that line of thinking she wouldn't be my wife in the first place. I'll have to make sure to tell my kids how lucky they really are.
