Unhappy Work place carnage

Accused shooter charged with three counts of first-degree murder, held without bond

Facing multiple counts of first-degree murder, including the death of his estranged wife, shackled and disheveled accused gunman David Lynn Jordan was ordered held without bond following an appearance before Jackson City Court Judge Blake Anderson this morning.

According to court documents, Jordan admitted to investigators that he loaded two handguns, a shotgun and a rifle and carried the weapons into the garage of the Tennessee Department of Transportation Tuesday morning and shot his estranged wife, Donne Renee Jordan, several times as she sat inside her office.

As Jordan left the scene, police say he also shot and killed David Gordon, a manager for HCI of Jackson, and Jerry Hopper, a 28-year veteran of the Tennessee Department of Forestry who was at the TDOT garage to receive maintenance on his vehicle.

The two men died at the hospital.
Authorities first thought that Gordon was making a delivery at the garage, but the police affidavit revealed that Gordon had followed Jordan to the garage shortly before the shooting because Jordan's truck had sideswiped him and Jordan didn't stop.

Gordon called police to report a hit and run accident and was waiting for an officer when Jordan shot him.

Still hospitalized are Larry Taylor, 54, of Finger, a TDOT employee, and fellow TDOT employee James Goff, 53, of Enville. Both were members of the garage crew.

Jordan, 40, is charged with three counts of first-degree murder and two counts of criminal intent to commit first-degree murder. He did not enter a plea.

Police have not released a motive but have said that the Jordans were separated at the time of the shooting. The couple had been staying at a home on Shady Oaks Drive, just a few miles from TDOT, but police said only David Jordan was staying there currently. Police would not disclose where Renee Jordan was living.

Judge Blake Anderson read from the warrant aloud and also asked Jordan to explain his financial and work situation.

''I'm laid off,'' Jordan responded.

When asked whether or not he would be able to pay for his own attorney or had family that would support him, Jordan replied: ''All the money to my name is what was in my wallet when police arrested me. The only thing I own is the vehicle,'' a reference to the red Mazda pickup he was driving when police stopped and arrested him.

Jordan was appointed an attorney by Judge Anderson.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 19 at 11 a.m. in the Madison County Criminal Justice Complex.

TDOT officials were planning an afternoon press conference to discuss plans in the aftermath of the shooting.
